Black Cat Stare

Black Cat Stare

Loved the look of this cat with its wide open stare. Here's a little poem... The black cat stares out of this eerie sight, capturing the feel of Halloween fright. Enjoy!

Sketch of a kitten

Sketch of a kitten
Oil on board
20x20cm
I saw this kitten for adoption and I thought it looked very Victorian against the red background and reminded me of some of the impressionist paintings of kittens I've seen. This was done as more of a sketch and only took me a couple of hours to complete. Which is very quick for me!

Laughing girl with flowers

Laughing girl with flowers
Oil on board
8x8in (20x20cm)
It's weird looking at this in a thumbnail because it looks like she's crying. I'm wondering if with some mouths there's a fine line between the look of laughing and crying. I hope I've captured the look of her laughter anyway. Below is the photo reference I used to create this painting.

Groundhog Day

For the Groundhog Day Challenge on DPW. Oil on board (20x20cm) - NFS.

A German legend has it that if a furry rodent sees his shadow on February 2, called Groundhog Day, winter will last another six weeks. If not, spring comes early.

I painted this whilst on holiday and it took me a while to post on my blog. I'm just getting settled and back into the rhythm of things.

Lighting

Lighting
Oil on board
8 x 8 in (20x20cm)
I'm away on holiday in Scotland and the weather has been rather stormy, so painting on location, unless it's looking out of the window, has been out of the question. One evening, lying in bed, the wall lighting caught my eye. I loved the glow of it against the white walls and decided that would make a fun painting to do on a grey and rainy day. It took me about 3 hours, which led me to think that maybe I could and should do more daily paintings like this. I didn't overthink it and the immediacy of the composition and the brushstrokes I felt were the most important part of the painting.
