Ruins of an old stone croft on the Isle of Skye #49

During the 19th century they had what were called "clearances" here in the highlands. What happened were all of these poor crofters who were living on the land of the gentry were cleared off to make way for sheep and deer. They were forcibly removed from their stone dwellings and the crofts, as the structures were called, were all destroyed to make sure the crofters didn't return. All that remains to be seen are the shells of the homes and sometimes only a layout of stones of what were once homes. Out in front of the cottage that we are renting are the remains of one of these stone crofts. This is the painting I did of it.
